A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
The primary job goal for this position is to plan and implement instruction in both co-teacher and self-contained classrooms Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning Work with, understand, and implement Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) including a special focus on early interventions Work with or understand Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use the information to adjust teaching strategies Participate in department, school, district, and parent meetings Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds Serve as a case manager, ensure all IEP processes and documentation are compliant with local, state, and federal guidelines Collaborate effectively with general education teachers, support staff, administration, ISD, and families Have an unwavering commitment to believing that all students can learn Have an unwavering commitment to positively engaging families in the education process Coordinates with outside agencies, organizations and institutions, including state and federal authorities as needed Special education grade level assignments may change in the future depending on special education needs across the district.
