  • 26, who are eligible for post-secondary special education services.
This role focuses on delivering direct instruction to help students develop functional life skills and entry-level job skills through hands-on learning experiences in the classroom, at work sites, and within the community. Education and Qualifications Qualified candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Education from an accredited university with core content in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and/or Science. Experience in Special Education is preferred. Special Education Certification is required. Emotional Impairment Certification, Cognitive Impairment Certification, Autism Spectrum Disorder, or Learning Disabilities Certification preferred. Job Summary Provide direct instruction for adult students with a range of disabilities in alignment with their IEPs and post-secondary transition goals. Develop and implement curriculum and instructional strategies related to life skills instruction, career and vocational curricula, structured work experiences, and transition assessments and support services. Plan, organize, and implement effective strategies and models of transition education and services in accordance with state and federal mandates. Participate in the development and implementation of IEPs and transition plans in collaboration with staff, parents/guardians, and students. Advocate for students to ensure access to appropriate educational, vocational, and community-based opportunities. Maintain regular communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress, goals, and program activities. Manage and monitor student progress and performance for assigned caseload, maintaining accurate documentation and progress reporting. Develop and implement evaluation systems to assess the effectiveness of transition programming and student outcomes. Establish and maintain a current database of post-secondary education, employment, and community resources available to students with disabilities. Support and participate in interagency collaboration with students, families, service providers, and employers to facilitate successful transitions to adulthood. Ensure all eligible students are connected to and access services through Michigan Rehabilitation Services and other relevant agencies. Perform other duties as assigned to support the success of the Adult Transition Program. This position reports to the Director of Special Services.
