What they do

A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Job Description

Qualifications/Experience:
Current Minnesota Special Ed license in ASD, SLD, or EBD. Successful background check required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Needed:
Thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching; ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior; ability to deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports; and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students and parents. Calm demeanor and passion for working with kids. Ability to communicate effectively with school staff and parents. Exemplifies the following

compassion, respect, responsibility, self discipline and honesty.
Specific Tasks:
Provide special education services to students. The teacher will work closely with teachers, admin and support staff to teach students skills and strategies for managing behaviors and working towards using strategies in the mainstream setting. Provide an ideal, positive learning environment, instruct students in individual or group sessions, develop, translate and integrate lesson plans, and establish positive relationships. Hours Per Day:
