Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Job Description

Special Education Responsibilities The RCS Special Education Teacher will engage all students as a creative and compassionate professional supporting a school culture in which students love learning. They will establish and engage students with a positive and productive suite of special education services through proactive methods, a clear management system, and strong student rapport. They will engage and inspire students allowing each child to feel known and valued in promoting their enjoyment of learning. The RCS Special Education Teacher will design and administer a range of special education supports, interventions, and assessments that reflect an awareness of different learning styles and language skills. The special education teacher will be supported by HVED coordinators and directors. Skills and Abilities

Valid State of Minnesota teaching license (required).
Special Education teaching experience with exemplary performance.
Special Education ABS Minnesota Licensure (preferred).
Disposition and experience to create a learning-friendly atmosphere that breeds enthusiasm among fellow teachers and students.
Ability to work collaboratively with community groups, parents, and the general public.
Excellent organization and written/verbal communication skills.
Ability to contribute to a high functioning, positive school climate and culture. Personal Qualities
Decisiveness tempered with patience, diplomacy, confidentiality, and compassion.
A willingness to engage with the Rollingstone Community as a visible special education teacher of the community's children.
An ability to establish a personable demeanor with a healthy and respectful sense of humor.
Willingness to learn new ideas, concepts, and techniques of special education teaching.
A willingness to engage with the Rollingstone Community as a special education teacher of the RCS teacher collaborative.
Collaborate with faculty to manage student individual educational plans in accordance with special education expectations, protocols, and procedures.
