Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Take the next step in your Special Education career working with a dedicated team focused on supporting young learners' growth and success. This contract opportunity is conveniently situated near Cherokee, NC, and offers the chance to lead a self-contained classroom of K-3 students. As a valued educator, you'll have the resources and support needed to foster both academic and social development for your students.
Key Experience and Licensure:
Valid Special Education Teacher license in North Carolina required Previous work with autism spectrum disorder strongly preferred Background in behavior management strategies highly desirable Ability to provide support with toileting and diapering as needed Experience in early childhood or elementary settings is a plus Skills in communication and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams
Your Role and Responsibilities:
Oversee a self-contained classroom, currently 4-5 students with potential growth to 7-8 Implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique needs Create a structured, responsive classroom environment that encourages positive behaviors and social-emotional growth Use evidence-based instructional approaches and interventions to promote student engagement and progress Coordinate closely with paraprofessionals, specialists, and families for holistic student support Monitor progress data, adapt strategies as needed, and maintain detailed documentation Support students with all aspects of daily living, including toileting and diapering
