Full-Time Position Overview:
Guilford Preparatory Academy is seeking a compassionate and dedicated K-8 Exceptional Children (EC) Teacher to support students with diverse learning needs in an inclusive and nurturing environment. The ideal candidate will develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs), provide specialized instruction, and collaborate with general education teachers to ensure all students have access to a high-quality education. This role requires a skilled educator who is committed to making a meaningful impact on the academic, social, and emotional development of students with disabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction & Curriculum Development:
Develop and implement individualized and small-group instruction tailored to students' learning needs and IEP goals. Collaborate with general education teachers to modify and adapt curriculum and classroom activities to ensure accessibility for students with exceptionalities. Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, including assistive technology, to engage and support students. Provide instruction in core academic subjects, as well as life skills, social skills, and self-advocacy. Conduct assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction as needed.
IEP & Documentation:
Develop, review, and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) in collaboration with parents, administrators, and support staff. Monitor and track student progress toward IEP goals and make adjustments as necessary. Maintain accurate and timely records of student performance, assessments, and IEP meetings. Participate in IEP meetings and provide progress reports to parents and team members.
Classroom & Student Management:
Create a positive, structured, and supportive classroom environment that promotes student success. Foster a safe space for students to express themselves and develop social-emotional skills. Implement effective classroom management strategies to ensure students stay engaged and focused. Advocate for students and work to reduce barriers to their success in the general education environment.
Collaboration & Professional Growth:
Work closely with parents, guardians, and school staff to build strong, collaborative relationships. Collaborate with other EC teachers, general education teachers, and specialists to ensure effective service delivery. Participate in professional development to stay current with best practices in special education and instructional strategies. Support school-wide initiatives and contribute to an inclusive and supportive school culture.
Assessment & Student Growth:
Administer and interpret various assessments to determine student needs and track progress. Provide regular feedback to students and parents regarding academic and behavioral progress. Use data to inform instruction, make accommodations, and celebrate student success.
Qualifications & Skills:
Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field (Master's degree preferred). Valid teaching license or certification in Exceptional Children or Special Education (or eligibility to obtain one). Previous experience working with students with disabilities, including developing and implementing IEPs. Strong knowledge of differentiated instruction, special education law, and best practices. Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills. Passion for working with students with exceptionalities and fostering their academic and social-emotional development.
