Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Teacher of Animal Science with a specialization in animal husbandry or veterinary care to inspire and educate students about the vital aspects of animal science, husbandry, and veterinary care. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with an engaging curriculum, foster hands-on learning experiences, and work with and care for live animals. The ideal candidate will bring a dynamic teaching style, strong vet or animal experience, and a commitment to nurturing students' curiosity about the animal sciences. This paid position is integral to shaping future veterinarians. Duties Work with a team to complete daily animal care including cleaning animal cages, administering medications to various exotic pets, and monitoring the health and wellbeing of over 35 animals. Handle various exotic animals including rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, ferrets, hamsters, snakes, bearded dragons, geckos, tortoises, hedgehogs, chickens, and more. Teach classes to groups of students of various age groups from preschool through high school both in our education center and off site. Learn a series of comprehensive lesson plans that incorporate vet sceince, animal science, and STEAM based learning practices Work with the team to develop new lesson plans and update our current curriculum. Deliver engaging classroom instruction on topics such as radiology, lab tests, animal habitats, nutrition, and more. Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development initiatives and participate in professional learning communities focused on instructional excellence. Manage classroom behavior through effective classroom management strategies while fostering an inclusive environment that respects diverse cultural backgrounds and learning styles. Mentor students interested in scientific research or pursuing careers in animal sciences; provide academic advising and support for extracurricular activities related to animal husbandry. Travel to various schools in NJ using a company vehicle. Lead after school clubs, participate in school assemblies, and execute enrichment classes within school classrooms. Qualifications Associates degree. Degree or certificate in animal science, biology, veterinary technician, kennel experience, education or a related field. Proven experience working with animals or students. Strong animal husbandry experience including caring for small pets, cleaning animal cages, monitoring animal diets preferred. Experience with learning styles adaptability is highly desirable. Excellent communication skills for effective classroom teaching, and collaboration with colleagues. Ability to work with well with a team of professional educators, veterinary experts, and children. Join us in shaping the next generation of animal science professionals! Pay:
$19.00 - $21.00 per hour Expected hours: 32.0 per week
