This position is designed for an educator who is comfortable working in an autism-focused therapeutic environment and who can integrate special education instruction, assistive technology, visual supports, functional academics, communication supports, and individualized learning activities into each client's daily program. The Special Education Teacher will collaborate with our BCBA/BCaBA team, Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs), Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Administrative Team to help clients generalize educational, communication, social, behavioral, and independent-living skills. Primary Responsibilities The Special Education Teacher will: Develop and implement individualized educational activities appropriate to each client's developmental level, abilities, treatment goals, and educational needs. Provide individual and small-group instruction for children and adolescents with autism. Develop functional academic activities involving reading, writing, mathematics, communication, problem-solving, and daily living skills. Adapt educational materials for clients with varying communication, behavioral, sensory, and learning needs. Create and implement visual schedules, First/Then supports, task-analysis materials, choice boards, communication supports, social narratives, and other structured teaching materials. Coordinate educational activities with established ABA treatment goals and clinical recommendations. Collaborate with BCBAs, BCaBAs, RBTs, Speech-Language Pathology, Occupational Therapy, and other members of the client's treatment team. Assist clinical staff with selecting educational materials appropriate for individual client goals. Help develop age-appropriate programming for Early Learners, school-age clients, and adolescents. Support adolescent clients in functional academics, life skills, vocational readiness, community participation, and transition-to-adulthood skills. Monitor client educational progress and recommend modifications to instructional materials and activities. Maintain organized records of educational programs, assignments, resources, and client progress. Participate in interdisciplinary meetings, staff training, and program-development activities as requested. Assistive Technology & Digital Learning Responsibilities A significant component of this position involves using educational and assistive technology to individualize instruction. The successful candidate should have experience with applications and platforms such as: Boardmaker / Boardmaker Student Center Bitsboard Education.com / Brainzy Boom Learning / Boom Cards Kids A-Z / Raz-Kids The teacher will help identify appropriate digital activities, assign client-specific educational programs, monitor progress when available within the application, and assist clinical staff and families with using assigned educational resources consistently. Experience developing AAC-compatible materials, visual supports, PECS-style materials, adapted curriculum, or special education instructional resources is highly desirable.
Minimum Qualifications Candidates should possess:
Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, Psychology, Child Development , or a closely related field. Minimum of two years of professional experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Minimum of two years of experience using assistive technology and/or educational applications , including experience with platforms such as Boardmaker, Bitsboard, Education.com, Boom Cards, and Kids A-Z. Demonstrated ability to modify educational activities for students with developmental, communication, behavioral, or learning differences. Experience creating individualized instructional materials and visual learning supports. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to collaborate effectively as part of an interdisciplinary clinical team. Ability to maintain professional documentation and client confidentiality. Preferred Qualifications The following qualifications are highly desirable: Current or previous Special Education teaching license/certification . Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification. Previous experience working in an ABA therapy center, autism clinic, special education classroom, or multidisciplinary pediatric setting. Familiarity with ABA principles and terminology. Experience working directly with BCBAs, BCaBAs, and RBTs. Experience with AAC systems and communication supports. Experience developing functional academic and transition programming for adolescents with autism. Experience training paraprofessionals, RBTs, parents, or other staff in implementing educational activities and assistive technology. Employment Status This position may begin on a part-time basis with the opportunity to transition into a full-time position based on clinic needs, candidate availability, performance, and program growth. Compensation will be based upon education, professional experience, certifications, and relevant autism/special education experience.
