TEACHER SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Under the general supervision of an administrator, a classroom teacher will implement school board policy regarding the educational curriculum of a particular instructional division and/or instructional unit associated with a CTE course of study or field of career exploration. The teacher may teach one or more subjects.

QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain knowledge and skills would be:

Education/Experience:

Any combination of education and experience that would allow for the acquisition of a valid Nevada teaching license in secondary CTE education or a Nevada Business & Industry (B & I) license. Typical ways to obtain knowledge and skills would be:

Experience:

Minimum of two (2) years full-time experience or 4,000 hours of verifiable work experience after age eighteen (18) in the associated teaching field, as well as acquisition of associated certifications and the ability to obtain a valid teaching license in

Nevada OR Education:

Bachelor's Degree in the associated teaching field from an accredited college or university with student teaching experience (Nevada secondary CTE license)

OR Experience and Education:

Combination of college coursework and verified work experience equivalent to a minimum of two (2) years in the associated teacher field, acquisition of associated certifications, and the ability to obtain a valid teaching license in

Nevada License/Certificates:

Possession of, or the ability to obtain a valid Nevada teaching license in the relevant subject area/and or grade level.

Special Considerations:

When selected for Department chair of a high school, additional pay will be provided based on number of teachers supervised. Industry experience may, in some circumstances, be counted as teaching experience for the purposes of determining salary.

ENDORSEMENTS

This position requires a Nevada teaching license with an appropriate Career and Technical Education endorsement related to the assigned program area and may require occupational experience, industry certifications, or technical expertise beyond those typically required for a standard secondary academic teaching assignment. The instructor is responsible for delivering state-approved Career and Technical Education (CTE) curriculum aligned to Nevada Department of Education standards. Instruction emphasizes technical skill development, career readiness, employability skills, and workforce preparation through hands-on and applied learning experiences. In addition to responsibilities common to licensed teaching positions, CTE instructors are responsible for integrating industry standards, technical competencies, and real-world applications into classroom and laboratory instruction. Programs may include specialized equipment, tools, software, laboratory environments, or industry-specific safety procedures unique to the assigned career pathway. CTE instructors may also be responsible for: Providing instruction aligned to industry standards and Nevada CTE program requirements.

Maintaining safe classroom, laboratory, shop, or simulated workplace environments consistent with district, state, and industry safety standards.

Supervising students in the proper use of specialized equipment, tools, technology, and materials.

Integrating employability skills, leadership development, and career readiness standards into instruction.

Supporting students in earning industry-recognized certifications, credentials, or technical skill attainment.

Coordinating work-based learning experiences, internships, clinical experiences, apprenticeships, or business partnerships when applicable.

Advising and supporting Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs).

Maintaining specialized equipment, inventories, and program resources associated with the assigned CTE pathway.

Collaborating with business, industry, postsecondary institutions, and community partners to support workforce alignment and student opportunities.

Meeting Nevada Department of Education requirements related to CTE program approval, reporting, accountability, and credentialing.

WHEN ASSIGNED TO METALS & WELDING

The instructor must possess technical expertise and/or industry experience in welding and metal fabrication processes including SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, oxy-fuel cutting, plasma cutting, blueprint reading, Me metallurgy, shop mathematics, fabrication, and safe operation of industrial equipment and tools. In addition to instructional responsibilities common to licensed teaching positions, the CTE instructor is responsible for: Maintaining a safe industrial laboratory environment consistent with OSHA, state, district, and industry safety standards.

Supervising students in the use of welding equipment, fabrication tools, machinery, and hazardous materials.

Integrating employability skills, technical competencies, and industry standards into instruction.

Supporting students in earning industry-recognized certifications.

Coordinating work-based learning opportunities, internships, CTSO participation, and industry partnerships.

Maintaining and inventorying specialized equipment, consumables, and laboratory resources.

Collaborating with local business and industry representatives to ensure program alignment with workforce needs.

Meeting Nevada Department of Education requirements specific to CTE program approval, reporting, and credentialing.

Please be advised health insurance premiums are paid by employees at a prorated percent for those working less than full time. New employees will be fingerprinted upon hire and will have $58.50 deducted from their first paycheck to help defray the cost of fingerprinting. Fingerprint fees are subject to change. The job offer is conditional until a report is returned from the FBI and Nevada Department of Public Safety that meets the standards of WCSD for employment purposes.
