Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. Responsibilities Design and deliver engaging, evidence-based lesson plans tailored to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities, including curriculum development and instructional modifications. Implement behavioral therapy techniques and behavior management strategies to support positive classroom behavior and social skills development. Conduct assessments and maintain accurate documentation for IEP development, progress monitoring, and compliance with special education law. Collaborate effectively with speech therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, and other professionals to coordinate comprehensive student support services. Utilize educational technology tools to enhance learning experiences and facilitate communication for students with communication challenges. Engage in regular parent-teacher communication to discuss student progress, share strategies for at-home support, and foster strong home-school partnerships. Manage classroom behavior proactively through classroom management techniques suitable for students with autism, developmental disabilities, or other special needs. Skills Proven experience working with children with disabilities, including autism spectrum disorders and developmental disabilities. Strong knowledge of special education law, IEP development, and instructional modifications. Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with families, colleagues, and external professionals. Skilled in behavior management techniques tailored for students with neurodevelopmental disorders. Ability to develop individualized lesson plans that incorporate literacy education, math instruction, social skills training, and early childhood development principles. Proficiency in educational technology integration to support diverse learning styles. Experience working in preschool or elementary school settings; private school or Montessori experience is a plus. Knowledge of speech therapy techniques and experience supporting speech-language development is desirable. Familiarity with standardized testing procedures and tutoring strategies for students requiring additional academic support.
