Job Description

Category Schools - Teacher of the Deaf / Hard of Hearing Job Type Contract Make a meaningful impact supporting students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing during the upcoming school year. Work onsite in the Vestal, NY area, providing critical educational services and advocacy to children who rely on your expertise to thrive in their academic journey. This full-time contract role offers a chance to inspire student growth within a supportive educational community. Position details and caseload specifics will be provided soon for the 2026-2027 school year.
Qualifications/Desired Experience:
Valid state certification as a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Knowledge of current best practices in deaf education and accessible instructional strategies Familiarity with various communication modalities, including American Sign Language, lip reading, assistive technologies, and auditory/oral approaches Experience assessing student needs and developing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, parents, and other educators Strong organizational and communication skills
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver direct instruction and support to Deaf/Hard of Hearing students, aligning educational plans to individual needs Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs in cooperation with students, families, and school staff Adapt curriculum materials and provide classroom modifications to foster inclusion and academic success Advocate for students' needs and help facilitate their participation in school activities Maintain thorough documentation of student progress and communicate regularly with all stakeholders Participate in ongoing professional development activities to stay current on best practices
