Little Axe Dr. / Norman, OK 73026 General Description The Lead Teacher carries on his/her duties under the direction of and is responsible to the Director of the Center and the Assistant Director. Responsibilities and Duties Responsible for the care and safety of the children. Maintain a professional attitude and a flexible, positive approach to his/her job. Maintain prompt hours and notify the Director in the event of illness. Maintain appropriate records and fully understand confidentiality. Manage the classroom program. Participate in achieving the objectives of the Center. Understands and applies the philosophy of the child care center. Actively contribute to child care functions geared towards the enrichment of child, parent, and staff interrelations and program planning and development. Work together with other teachers as a team and provide guidance and support when a Teacher Aide or Assistant Teacher has been assigned to the classroom. Help with the general care and cleanliness of equipment and materials of the Center. Additional duties as assigned. Responsibilities regarding

Children:

The Lead Teacher welcomes the children in the morning and makes them feel "at home" in the Center. Most important responsibility is the care, safety, and well-being of all children in the center. Prepares a stimulating program/lesson plan of activities for his/her group with attention to: individual development, emotional, physical, psychological and social needs of each child; and ensures respect for individual initiative, and the safety and health of the children. Submit lesson plans to director for approval. Setting up the physical environment to meet the changing needs of the group of children for whom he/she is caring. Promotes good nutritional habits and sees that there is a calm atmosphere for lunch, snacks and nap time. Demonstrates a sound knowledge of good teaching practice and knowledge of child growth and development verbally and by role modeling. Provide parents with a daily written report of child's behavior and activities. Provide parents with current child development information as requested/needed. Has a responsibility to communicate with the Director any concerns arising from a child's difficulty in coping with the program and to work with the Director towards a solution. In the event that a child seems unwell, it is the Lead Teacher's responsibility to see that steps are taken to protect the health of the child and the other children in consultation with the Director. Responsibilities regarding Administration When the Director and Assistant Director are absent, the appointed Lead Teacher will assume the responsibility of Acting Director. Attend staff meetings and required trainings as scheduled. Assist in training of other staff members, may give guidance to Assistant Teachers and Teacher Aide when appropriate in the classroom. Make recommendations regarding purchasing of equipment and materials, etc., in consultation with the Director. Must follow policies and procedures of the Center, Tribe and DHS. If child abuse is suspected, you are required by law to report the incident. You are required to cooperate fully in the investigation of any allegation. Education Requirements and Qualifications Must be at least 21 years of age, have a High School Diploma or GED and have one of the following: Obtained the qualifications at a Level 4 or higher on the CECPD Professional Ladder. A bachelor's degree in early childhood education, school-age care, child development, social work, nursing, sociology, psychology, human development and family studies, or another child-related field; OR An associate's degree in early childhood education or an above noted field and one year of experience as a teacher; OR A national competency-based credential such as the Certified Childcare Professional® (CCP) or Child Development Associate™ (CDA) (or COM) and two years of experience as a teacher. Prior experience working in a DHS Licensed facility is preferred. Must have valid Oklahoma Driver's License Must have adequate transportation. Must be able to stoop, crawl, kneel, and bend in order to speak to children at the child's eye level, to play with children, and to pick up toys/equipment off the floor. Must be able to lift, carry, and hold children:

Infant and Toddler Teachers:

up to 36 pounds

Two-Year Old Teachers:

up to 50 pounds

Preschool Teachers:

up to 70 pounds Must have skills to relate to the community in general. Must be able to pass criminal background check which will include a drug screen and fingerprinting.
