JOB PURPOSE

Under the direct supervision of the CDC Director, you are responsible for meeting the developmental needs of children birth through three years of age in a group setting. Floaters work in the classroom where they are needed at the time. Responsibilities include but are not limited to providing a safe and secure environment, as well as maintaining positive relations and communications with families, partnership agencies and program staff.

KNOWLEDGE

Required:

1. High school diploma 2. CDA 3. Must be at least 21 years of age and have experience working with ages birth - 3 years 4. Possess a command of spoken and written English to serve as a language role model. 5. CPR/AED, First Aid and O2 Certification or willingness to obtain desired. 6. Experience managing groups of young children. 7. Meet all Health Department Guidelines.

Preferred:

1. Minimum of 6 months experience working in a licensed childcare program. 2. Excellent organizational skills. 3. Preferably one or more years of college in a related field (i.e. early childhood, child development, psychology, etc.) 4. Knowledge and ability to implement creative and developmentally appropriate curriculum. 5. Understand the nature of the YMCA as a membership organization 6. Bilingual - English/Spanish

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Arrange the classroom to provide for learning centers and rotate toys routinely. 2. Maintain positive, open relations with all families. 3. Address and greet parents by name upon arrival and departure. 4. Reinforce daily to parent and child the successes and positive behaviors exhibited. 5. Visit with parents and keep record of all behavior concerns as may arise. 6. Communicate all concerns and provide written documentation of all concerns to Director. 7. Facilitate all classroom activities, participate, model, and observe as necessary. 8. Maintain neatly all storage areas. 9. Follow a cleaning schedule. 10. Maintain learning centers; older toddlers, preschoolers, and kindergarteners have space arranged for a variety of individual and small group activities including block building, dramatic play, art, music, science, math, manipulative, and quiet book reading. 11. Remove all broken toys or equipment. 12. Attend all required staff meeting and trainings. 13. Follow program dress code. 14. Maintain confidentiality on a strict need to know basis with parents, staff, outside agencies, and the general community. 15. Responsible for maintaining discipline among children following YMCA guidelines. 16.Respond appropriately to all emergency and non-emergency situations and fill out necessary paperwork. 17. Ability to provide a positive, nurturing environment for children required. 18. Ability to be flexible in assignment and work hours. 19. Ability to provide superior customer service required. 20. Follow Child Abuse Report Guidelines. 21. Understand and implement all emergency drills as needed.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

High level of concentration and aptitude for learning wide variety of program information. Follow all program guidelines in regard to food service, clean up and food storage. Must be able to communicate respectfully and effectively with superiors, co-workers, and children ages birth - 3yrs. Ability to speak distinctly to communicate with customers and staff on the phone or in person. Physically able to lift 40+ pounds. Requires frequent lifting. Must be able to participate in activities. Knowledge and physical ability to respond in emergency situations. Ability to be flexible and adjust to a changing work environment. Patience to deal with 5 or more people at the same time. Sound judgment and problem-solving skills for dealing with daily issues in a variety of situations.
