Overview:

Essential Duties:
The Co-Teacher is expected to work collaboratively with Lead Teachers, other Co-Teachers and school administration to facilitate relationship-focused, intentional connections between students, teachers, teaching approaches, parents, and the school community to achieve the best learning outcomes for students. In the domain of Teaching and Instruction, duties include: Actively engaging in social-emotional and restorative practices as a foundation of instruction and classroom management Helping students one-on-one with lessons and answering student questions about instructional material Supporting classroom and behavior management and reinforcing good behavior In the domain of Professional Development, duties include: Participating in all professional development activities, which includes staff meetings, committee meetings, PLC meetings, workshops, curriculum retreats, grade reporting, planning, and other professional pursuits (Montessori training, Restorative Justice training, Trauma-Informed Practices, etc). In the domain of Service to School, duties include: Attending the school's community building activities such as back-to-school nights, student showcases and open house events Supporting school events and clubs Other duties as assigned.
Skills Needed:
Effective, positive, student behavior management Ability to support students with middle school concepts including math concepts of basic algebra, geometry, fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions Ability to be firm, consistent, and kind while reinforcing school-wide behavior expectations Ability to communicate professionally with students, staff and families Flexible, helpful, team-player
Minimum Qualifications:
Co-Teachers must hold a TSPC charter school registry qualifying them to teach middle school multi-subjects. Co-Teachers must maintain that status with TSPC by following the tracking and reporting requirements for continuing education hours. It is highly desirable for Co-Teachers to possess knowledge and skill in instructional principles, methods and techniques of Oregon public school teaching standards, and/or Montessori philosophies of educational environments. Bachelor's Degree is highly preferred.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, Co-Teachers are regularly required to communicate clearly with students and move efficiently throughout the learning environment. Co-Teachers are frequently required to stand, walk, sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Co-Teachers must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Co-Teachers must be able to engage with fine hand manipulation (keyboarding). Co-Teachers are required to lead students in Physical Education lessons to include demonstration of rigorous physical activity. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Co-Teacher to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Work Hours and Location:
This Co-Teacher position is a 0.5 FTE non-exempt hourly position. Work days follow the approved annual school calendar, typically mid-August through mid-June. Work days for this position would be Monday-Friday 8:00 - Noon. This part-time position includes paid holidays, paid time off, paid school breaks and other benefits allocated on a pro rata basis as described in the offer of employment. All work performed by the Co-Teacher will be at The Valley School campus at 857 Valley View Drive, Medford, OR and at various other locations as needed and/or agreed with the School.
Pay:
$18.00 - $25.00 per hour
