Salary in accordance with PEA Collective Bargaining Agreement

DESCRIPTION

To provide targeted, research-based reading instruction and intervention to elementary students who require additional support in developing literacy skills. The Reading Specialist works collaboratively with classroom teachers, building administration, and other educational professionals to identify student needs, monitor progress, and support the development of effective reading practices across the school.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide high-quality direct instruction to individual students and small groups.

Uses data to instruct students and bring their skills to grade level.

Collaborates with teachers and other instructional staff to support teachers in implementing best classroom instructional practices that are district-approved.

Uses identified research-based interventions to focus specifically on individual student needs.

Maintains data-based documentation of continuous monitoring of student performance and progress.

Provides data to school teams and participates in decisions about student progress.

Communicate with teachers, administration, and families regarding student progress.

Assists with identifying students for placement in intervention groups.

Supports the implementation of assessment tools and data management systems.

Attends the appropriate training to improve knowledge and skills

Provides staff development opportunities.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Must possess a Valid PA Elementary Teaching Certification and a Reading Certification

be within 90 days of hire.

If the use of arm and/or leg control requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the individual sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work. The incumbent should be able to exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

MEDIUM WORK

The incumbent should be able to exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally,

and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.

HEAVY WORK

The incumbent should be able to exert up to 75 lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs of force constantly to move objects.

VERY HEAVY WORK

The incumbent should be able to exert in excess of 100 lbs of force occasionally, and in excess of 50 lbs. of force frequently, and in excess of 20 lbs of force

constantly to move objects.
