Job Description

A rewarding opportunity awaits a dedicated Special Education Teacher eager to make a meaningful impact in a supportive middle school setting. This contract position is based near Irmo, SC, and focuses on working with students ages 11-14 with mild intellectual disabilities. Youll be assigned to one school, fostering relationships and supporting students growth in both academic and social domains. Qualifications and Experience:
Valid South Carolina Special Education (SPED) teaching license required Experience working with middle school-aged students preferred Strong understanding of intellectual disabilities, particularly mild ID Ability to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with families, colleagues, and support staff Enthusiasm for cultivating a positive, inclusive learning environment
Key Responsibilities:
Provide direct instruction and differentiated support to middle school students with mild intellectual disabilities Develop, monitor, and update IEPs in compliance with state and federal regulations Work closely with paraeducators and multidisciplinary teams within the school Engage and communicate with families regarding student progress and needs Participate in ongoing professional development and school-based training Maintain documentation and track student growth Foster a safe, encouraging classroom atmosphere that empowers students to achieve their personal best
