A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

JOB EXPECTATIONS
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the learner Be able to develop an appropriate learning environment with effective classroom management Be able to develop and interpret appropriate Functional Behavioral Assessments and Behavior Improvement Plans Be able to communicate effectively Be able to use effective instructional methods Demonstrate ability to organize and plan the instructional program Demonstrate skills in evaluating the instructional program and student progress Possess effective interpersonal skills Demonstrate willingness to grow professionally Demonstrate knowledge of subject area
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of Bachelor's degree and Tennessee teaching license with appropriate endorsement required. Teaching experience preferred. Requires the High School/Special Education endorsement. Salary paid in accordance with the Teacher Salary Schedule.
