Qualifications

Candidates must meet one of the following paths:

Be a student enrolled at any local university or college pursuing Early Childhood Education

and taking at least one class (in person or online); OR

Hold an Associate, Baccalaureate, or advanced degree in early childhood education or a

related field, with experience teaching preschool children. If a degree is in another field, the

candidate must be willing to obtain a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential and

work toward a degree in early childhood within 90 days of hire.

Candidates must also successfully complete and maintain the following permits and

certifications:

Food Handlers Permit (must state ANSI on the certificate); renewed every two (2) years by

the expiration date.

First Aid certification; renewed every two (2) years by the expiration date.

CPR Infant/Toddler certification; renewed every two (2) years by the expiration date.

CPR/First Aid must be for Adult/Pediatric CPR/First Aid/AED.

Bilingual ability in English and Spanish is preferred but not required.

Required Documents

Requirements

Requires 30 clock hours of training each year to meet TDFPS requirements.

Must possess a valid Texas Drivers License (Operators

•Class C).

Must successfully pass a criminal background check.

Proof of work eligibility must be provided.

Duties

Maintain open lines of communication with the immediate supervisor, subordinates,

parents, and volunteers.

Always keep classroom materials ready.

Write and implement daily lesson plans, allowing an opportunity for parent input.

Document childrens files daily for class attendance, nutrition, health, and behavior

monitoring.

Reinforce classroom and environmental safety.

Screen children for disabilities and submit reports to the Mental Health and Disability

components.

Involve parents in educational activities to enhance their role as the principal influence on

the childs education and development.

Provide materials appropriate to the childs age and level of development.

Reflect the cultural background of the children through classroom materials, activities, and

related languages.

Promote high self-esteem, serve as a good role model, and follow the centers behavior

management system and code of ethics.

Administer and complete the developmental screening on all children within 45 days of the

childs enrollment date using Teaching Strategies.

Attend morning inspections; keep children clean and well groomed; serve meals and

snacks; prepare for nap or rest time; and support toilet training.

Participate in the centers annual assessment.

Participate in pre-service training once a year and ongoing in-service workshops as

required by the program.

Maintain an adequate number of supplies at the center.

Assemble monthly thematic bulletin boards in the classrooms.

Attend cluster meetings, parent meetings, and workshops.

Work at De Colores Child Development Center ceremonies and various social events.

Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or Director.

Read and write, keep routine records, follow written and oral instructions, and file

alphabetically and numerically.

Make judgments or decisions based on sensory or judgmental criteria, relying on one or

more of the five physical senses.

Deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions remaining courteous,

cooperative, conscientious, and tactful with employees and the general public.

Demonstrate sensitivity toward families living below the socioeconomic level.

Handle various projects at the same time in an effective manner.

Dress in appropriate attire with a neat personal appearance.

Compensation

Pay Rate Experience / Qualifications

$10.00 / hour No childcare experience will train

$10.50 / hour Less than one year of childcare experience, with or without childcare

training

$11.00 / hour One year of childcare experience with 24+ hours of up-to-date childcare

training

$13.50 / hour CDA and more than 2 years of childcare experience

$14.00 / hour AA in ECD with up to 24 hours of childcare training

$14.00+ / hour AA in ECD, or AA in another major with a CDA, or a BA in another

major, and 3 or more years of early childcare experience
