A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree Valid Texas Teaching Certification with required endorsements
  • One of the following endorsements is required for this vacancy: Generalist (EC
  • 4) or (EC
  • 6) Teacher of Young Children
  • General Early Childhood (PK
  • 3) Elementary (PK
  • 6) Core Subjects (EC
  • 6) Kindergarten Core Subjects with Science of Teaching Reading (EC
  • 6) AND
  • One of the following endorsements is required for this vacancy: English as a Second Language Supplemental
  • All Early Childhood teachers must hold ESL certification. AND
  • All Early Childhood Teachers must also meet one of the following: (A) a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or another early childhood education credential approved by the agency; (B) certification offered through a training center accredited by Association Montessori Internationale or through the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education; (C) at least eight years' experience of teaching in a nationally accredited child care program; (D) be employed as a prekindergarten teacher in a school district that has received approval from the commissioner for the district's prekindergarten-specific instructional training plan that the teacher uses in the teacher's prekindergarten classroom; or (E) an equivalent qualification.
