A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Job Description
Key Experience and Credentials:
Current Texas TSVI certification or eligibility required Previous experience as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired preferred Comfortable working with elementary, middle, and high school students (ages and needs will vary) Familiarity with developing and adapting curriculum for visually impaired learners Strong communication and organizational skills to manage a fluid caseload and travel between campuses Ability to support homebound students as neededResponsibilities:
Provide direct instruction and support to a caseload of 12-15 students, including at least 3 homebound learners Travel between approximately 6 school sites to support diverse student needs throughout the week Collaborate with general and special education staff, families, and related service providers to implement IEPs Evaluate students functional vision and adapt materials/technology as appropriate Serve as an advocate and resource for students, ensuring access and equity in the school community Enjoy a dynamic contract position with structured hours37.5 per week, 7.5 hours each day. This is an on-site-only assignment and is not open for virtual/VOCO services.
