A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Job Description

This position is a 0.5 FTE located at Carlin Springs Elementary School.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must have or be eligible for Virginia licensure. Elementary endorsement. Dual endorsement in English as a Second Language and/or Special Education, or in any other content area, is preferred but not required.

EXPERIENCE

Experience teaching elementary students.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Demonstrate excellence in organizing timelines, data and workload. Superior communication skills. In-depth knowledge of SOL testing protocols, exemptions and special testing accommodations. Ability to interpret and organize data for analysis and goal setting. Salary will be based on the
