A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Implements instructional programs that meet the needs, interests and abilities of students using appropriate instructional materials. Maintains safe and orderly environment. Communicates with parents/guardians. Maintains complete and accurate student records. Collaborates with school administrators, other teachers, instructional assistants, parents, and community members. Monitors and assesses student achievement. Attends ongoing professional learning and meetings.
EXPERIENCE
Teaching experience in the above mentioned areas. Knowledge of best instructional practices. Ability to integrate technology. Experience in educational and instructional leadership.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must have or be eligible for Virginia licensure. Special Education endorsement. Dual endorsement in English as a Second Language and/or Special Education, or in any other content area, is preferred but not required. Salary will be based on
FY2026-2027
