Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Make a meaningful difference in the lives of high school students by serving as both an Athletic Trainer and Special Education Teacher for grades 9-12. This full-time, contract assignment spans the entire school year and offers the unique opportunity to blend academic support with athletic care in a vibrant high school atmosphere near Newport News, VA. Ideal candidates bring expertise in special education strategies for adolescents, as well as the hands-on skills to support student-athletes' physical health. You'll collaborate with educators, coaches, and families to foster a safe, inclusive, and dynamic learning and athletic environment.
Desired Qualifications:
Current teaching certification in Special Education (Grades 9-12) Credentials or certification as an Athletic Trainer Previous experience in a high school or secondary education setting preferred Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams Commitment to promoting a positive, supportive school climate for all students
Primary Responsibilities:
Deliver tailored instruction and modify curriculum for students with a variety of learning needs Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in collaboration with staff and families Assess student progress toward educational goals and adjust interventions as needed Provide injury prevention, assessment, and rehabilitative care to high school athletes Attend practices, games, and school events to oversee student-athlete health and respond to injuries Maintain accurate records related to both special education services and athletic training responsibilities Benefit from the rewarding challenge of supporting students in both academic and athletic pursuits.
