Join our elementary team! We are a growing Christian school in the heart of Virginia Beach hiring an elementary teacher. Overview Gateway Christian Academy is seeking a caring, Christ-centered, and student-focused Special Education Teacher to provide individualized academic support to students in Kindergarten-5th grade , with occasional support potentially extending through 7th grade. This is a developing position within our growing school program. The Special Education Teacher will work directly with students through one-on-one pull-out services , providing targeted support based on individual student needs and helping students access the general education curriculum. The ideal candidate will be passionate about helping students succeed, skilled at building positive relationships, and able to collaborate effectively with classroom teachers and school leadership. Key Responsibilities Provide individualized, one-on-one academic support to students based on their identified needs. Support students in accessing and participating successfully in the general education curriculum. Implement and reinforce appropriate classroom accommodations and learning supports . Pull students individually from their classrooms for scheduled support services. Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to understand student needs and provide consistent support. Monitor student progress and communicate observations and concerns to appropriate school personnel. Maintain appropriate records and documentation related to student services and progress. Help identify effective strategies and supports for individual students. Establish positive, encouraging relationships with students while promoting independence and confidence. Maintain student confidentiality and follow school policies and procedures. Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and other school activities as appropriate. Contribute to the continued development of Gateway Christian Academy's special education support program. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Elementary Education, or a related field preferred. Special education teaching experience or experience working with students with diverse learning needs preferred. Understanding of accommodations, differentiated instruction, and individualized student support. Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with classroom teachers and administration. Patient, flexible, and able to adapt support to individual student needs. Strong personal faith in Christ and commitment to Christian education. Passion for helping students grow academically, socially, and spiritually. Why Gateway?
