Job Description

Essex High School is seeking a dedicated and collaborative Temporary Multilingual/English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher to support students for the remainder of the school year while covering a leave of absence.

The successful candidate will provide high-quality instruction and support to multilingual learners, collaborate with classroom teachers and support staff, and help create an inclusive learning environment in which all students can thrive.

We are seeking an adaptable, highly collaborative High School Multilingual/EL Educator who excels at building bridges—between non-English speaking families and the school, and between EL best practices and general education classrooms. The ideal candidate thrives in a culturally diverse environment and views language learning through an asset-based lens.

The position is open until filled, however, those that apply by 10/11/26 will get initial full conisderation.

Key responsiblities include: Build trust and establish authentic, culturally responsive communication channels with non-English speaking families, ensuring they are active partners in their student's high school journey.

Plan and teach English language development classes for multilingual learners at varying levels of proficiency, using standards-aligned instruction to strengthen students' listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.

Partner proactively with high school content-area teachers to co-plan, differentiate instruction, and scaffold complex academic material for English Learners across all disciplines.

Serve as a dependable, engaged member of the school's broader EL team by participating in team meetings, shared planning, progress monitoring, case consultation, and coordinated problem-solving to provide consistent services and support for multilingual learners.

Design and deliver instruction that honors and leverages the diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds of a broad spectrum of student populations.

Serve as a collaborative liaison and resource within the building, advocating for EL student needs while helping colleagues implement effective language acquisition strategies.

Preferred qualifications:

Hold (or be eligible to hold) a valid VT educator license with

K-12 ELL

endorsement (3-40)

Experience teaching multilingual learners at the secondary level

Knowledge of English language development standards, assessment, and instructional strategies

Strong collaboration, interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills

Candidates who are reflective, student-centered, and committed to helping multilingual learners succeed are encouraged to apply.
