Job Description

Mount Mansfield Unified Union School District is seeking an energetic, compassionate, and dedicated Special Educator to join our team. This position serves students in grades K-4, with a particular focus on supporting learners with academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs. The ideal candidate has a genuine passion for working with elementary-aged students and a strong understanding of foundational literacy development. Experience implementing structured literacy practices and evidence-based interventions is essential. We are looking for an educator who is committed to fostering inclusive learning environments, collaborating closely with colleagues and families, and helping every student achieve success. This educator should have a strong background in elementary special education strategies and thrive as part of a collaborative, creative, and hard-working team. The role requires experience working closely alongside classroom teachers to co-plan and ensure that instruction is accessible and meaningful for all learners. Strengths must include the ability to build and foster positive relationships with students and families, communicate effectively, and thoughtfully adapt and modify curriculum to meet diverse learning profiles. The ideal candidate will be skilled in supporting students with lagging behavioral and social-emotional skills, using proactive, responsive, and relationship-centered approaches. A strong knowledge of best practices in delivering individualized and small-group instruction in literacy and math is essential, as is familiarity with Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), and VT special education rules and regulations. Candidates should also have the following.
  • Active Vermont Special Educator License
  • Experience in behavioral management techniques/interventions
  • Strong collaboration skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
