SPECIAL EDUCATION R1 TEACHER DESCRIPTION
Port Angeles High School is seeking a candidate for a high school Special Education Resource 1 teacher. This is a full-time, 7.5 hours per day, teaching 6 sections each semester that may include modified English, transitional reading, behavior skills, learning strategies and/or employment skills. Under the direction of the Building Principal and Director of Special Education, the Licensed Special Education Teacher develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities; Evaluates and assesses student progress against instructional objectives; follows State mandated due process procedures and functions as IEP Case Manager to assigned students.
QUALIFICATIONS
 Washington State Teaching Certificate required with Special Education endorsement.  Previous successful classroom experience with students who have health impairments, learning disabilities, autism, and/or behavior disorders preferred.  Experience providing an enthusiastic and positive learning climate that promotes appropriate behavior and successful learning.  Knowledge of trauma informed practices and de-escalation strategies (training provided by district).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
 Being a strong team player, willing to work hard, conscientious, organized, and relating well with students and staff.  De-escalating of students who are engaging in dangerous or inappropriate conduct, and use of physical safety procedures, as taught in de-escalation training.  Developing and writing Individual Education Plans (IEPs), monitoring progress, and scheduling and conducting IEP meetings in a timely manner in compliance with state and federal guidelines.  Maintaining appropriate levels of confidentiality in all matters pertaining to students, parents, staff, and programs.  Implementing District adopted curriculum from general education, and approved research-based intervention curriculum.  Creating and maintaining a supportive team atmosphere with paraprofessionals and other staff.  Developing and maintaining productive relationships with other employees, parents, and students where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.  Safeguarding the safety and health of students.  Responding to stressful situations appropriately.  Collecting data, planning, and implementing data-driven academic instruction, behavior strategies, and progress monitoring, to maximize student progress.  Responding to stressful situations appropriately.  Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the position.  All positions are on site and in person only.  Walking, running, and standing for prolonged periods. Wages -Teacher salary schedule $57,080 to $112,441 DOE Benefits - Medical, Retirement, Basic Life/AD&D, Basic Long-Term Disability, FSA & HSA.
