Substitute Teachers provide classroom coverage when regular faculty members are absent and play an important role in maintaining a positive, engaging, and consistent learning environment for our students. Assignments are available on an as-needed basis throughout the school year. We are particularly interested in candidates who generally have availability at least one to two days per week. Position Details Substitute Teachers are responsible for leading the classroom and supporting student learning in accordance with lesson plans, routines, and expectations established by the regular classroom teacher. Assignments may be available across elementary and middle school grade levels and subject areas. Responsibilities may include delivering planned instruction, facilitating classroom activities and discussions, supporting individual students and small groups, managing classroom routines and behavior, and providing feedback to the regular teacher following the assignment. Substitute Teachers are also responsible for the supervision and safety of students throughout the school day, which may include recess, lunch, passing periods, morning arrival, and afternoon dismissal. Successful substitutes are dependable, flexible, confident classroom leaders who are able to quickly build rapport with students and adapt to different grade levels, subjects, and classroom environments.
Qualifications Required:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Current California teaching credential or substitute teaching permit. Experience working with school-age children in a school, classroom, tutoring, camp, youth program, or similar educational setting. Ability to lead a classroom, follow established lesson plans, and maintain a positive and productive learning environment. Strong classroom management, interpersonal, and communication skills. Ability to exercise sound judgment and make appropriate decisions independently while carrying out the responsibilities of the teacher. Ability to interact professionally and respectfully with students, employees, and families and maintain appropriate professional boundaries. Dependability, punctuality, flexibility, and the ability to respond calmly and appropriately to changing situations. Ability to meet all School and state requirements for employment, including required background clearance and applicable health and safety requirements.
Desired:
Previous classroom teaching or substitute teaching experience. Experience teaching elementary and/or middle school students. Experience in an independent school environment. Familiarity with Google Workspace for Education and classroom educational technology. Current First Aid/CPR certification. Compensation and Schedule The rate of pay is $188 per day. Substitute Teachers work on a casual, temporary, as-needed basis. Substitutes set their own availability and may accept assignments as they become available. We are particularly interested in candidates who generally have availability at least one to two days per week.
