Job Description
Description American Martyrs School, a parish school serving students in kindergarten through eighth grade, is building its substitute teacher pool for the current school year. Substitutes step into classrooms on short notice and carry the day forward with warmth, structure, and care, following the plans left by the classroom teacher and keeping students engaged and safe. Because ours is a Catholic school, substitutes are also asked to support the faith life of the classroom, including prayer with students and participation in liturgies when they fall on an assigned day. Assignments range from a single day to longer term placements, and substitutes are free to accept the days that fit their schedules. Requirements A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required, a California Emergency 30 Day Substitute Teaching Permit or a valid California teaching credential is preferred. We look for adults who genuinely enjoy children, who can establish calm and order quickly in an unfamiliar room, and who communicate clearly with students, faculty, and the office. Prior classroom experience is preferred but not required. Familiarity with Catholic school culture is a plus, and a willingness to uphold the mission and values of the Church is essential. All employees must complete Archdiocese of Los Angeles safe environment requirements, including fingerprinting, background clearance, safeguard training, and proof of a negative TB screening, before the first assignment. Wage Range The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
