Position Summary:
In the absence of the classroom teacher, the Long-Term Substitute provides instruction, encourages student progress, and manages the learning environment. This position ensures continuity of learning by maintaining established routines, delivering engaging lessons, and fostering a safe and positive classroom atmosphere.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Maintain established routines and procedures of the assigned school and classroom.
  • Create and deliver lesson plans or follow those outlined by the absent teacher.
  • Implement instructional strategies that promote quality academic and social development.
  • Maintain discipline and classroom control in accordance with district policies.
  • Create a learning environment conducive to growth, maturity, and student interests.
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes at designated times and locations.
  • Demonstrate professional practices in teaching and classroom management.
  • Model correct use of oral and written language.
  • Protect school records, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Report student injuries, illnesses, accidents, and disciplinary issues promptly.
  • Assign reasonable tasks and homework to support learning goals.
  • Remain at school during the entire day unless excused by administration.
  • Maintain punctuality, reliability, and professional appearance.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal or designated representative.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Strong instructional and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to create engaging lesson plans aligned with student needs.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to different grade levels and subject areas.
  • Demonstrated professionalism and reliability.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to foster positive student and staff relationships.
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive, safe, and supportive environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow school policies.
  • Capacity to respond effectively to student needs and challenges.
Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Massachusetts Licensure preferred.
  • Proficiency in English (oral and written).
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with school staff and administration.
