To provide an educational environment in which students placed within In-School Suspension succeed academically, socially, and physically in accordance with system philosophy, goals and objectives. Additional expectations include implementing an effective instructional support, appropriate monitoring and supervision of ISS students, assigning appropriate materials and resources, and utilization of best instructional practices.QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's degree or 48 semester hours from an accredited college or a passing score on the ACT WorkKeys Assessment Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification /licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457 A minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent, preferably a Bachelor's Degree Demonstrates proficiency in oral and written communication skills. Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups, for the purpose of maximizing student achievement. Ability to identify and solve problems as a productive team member. Ability to use technology to communicate, to plan and provide instruction, to facilitate student learning, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information. Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities. Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent or Principal may require.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned as needed. Monitors student behavior in the In-School Suspension classroom; reinforces appropriate behavior and ensures that students stay on task. Communicates In-School Suspension rules. Refers students who violate program rules to school administrator. Assists students with work assignments; answers questions. Contacts teachers to obtain homework assignments as needed. Reinforces classroom learning activities. Records information for students entering In-School Suspension, such as grade level, behavior, and reason for assignment to detention. Maintains records of student activities and behavior while in suspension classroom; forwards information to teachers and school administrators. Types program-related materials. Exchanges information with school staff concerning students assigned to program; participates in staff meetings as requested. May provide clerical assistance to school staff members as time allows; types correspondence and forms; corrects student assignments or monitors loading of buses. Provides materials to students; instructs students to read materials and complete exercises by deadline. Encourages students to improve their behavior. To understand and assist in upholding school rules, policies, and procedures To respect the confidentiality of information pertaining to students and staff To assist in fostering positive student attitudes toward citizenship, self-discipline, morality, and ownership of learning. Collect and maintain necessary data as needed. Attend and participate in individual, school, and system professional development activities. Performs other duties as assignedEVALUATION
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
