DESIGN PROGRAM INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT

Purpose:
To provide instructional support for Design Courses in both the main school building and the Sillers Design Center. To assist teachers with student learning in classroom and maker space settings, support safe and effective use of equipment, and help with transitions, setup, and supervision to ensure a smooth and engaging design learning experience.

The Design Program Instructional Assistant (IA) will play a vital role in supporting our hands-on Design Courses, both in the main school building and in the Sillers Design Center. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Support teachers by assisting students during design lessons and creative projects. Escort students to and from the Sillers Design Center when needed. Provide guidance in both classroom and maker space settings, including safe use of tools, machines, and creative materials. Prepare materials and equipment before class sessions and assist with cleanup/reset between classes. Ensure the Design Center and school classrooms are welcoming, well-organized, and ready for innovation. Encourage student curiosity and teamwork while helping them bring their design ideas to life. Collaborate with faculty to strengthen the overall Design Program experience. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents and members of the school community. Support the School and its leadership. Minimum Requirements:
1. Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience working with children in an educational setting. 2. Demonstrated interest in design, STEM, maker spaces, or hands-on learning environments. 3. Ability to supervise students safely while promoting curiosity, innovation, and exploration. 4. Outstanding interpersonal skills with a strong customer service focus, both internal and external. 5. Excellent written and oral communication skills with an ability to inspire and engage diverse stakeholders. 6. Strategic thinker and self-starter with the ability to successfully prioritize and multi-task in an atmosphere in which sensitive deadlines are the norm, as are interruptions 7. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills; able to prioritize and multi-task effectively in a dynamic setting. 8. Strong computer skills and proficiency in MS office suite. 9. Enthusiasm for the mission of St. Mary's and a genuine love for working with children and supporting their growth and creativity. 10. Must be able to sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time.
