About Emeryville Emeryville is a dynamic and compact city situated in the northwest corner of Alameda County, nestled along the eastern shore of the San Francisco Bay. Its strategic location, bordered by Oakland to the south and Berkeley to the north, and directly across the bay from San Francisco, has been a significant factor in its development. The town was officially incorporated in 1896 Emeryville is a vibrant urban center known for its blend of residential, commercial, and industrial areas. Despite its small size (just over two square miles), it is a significant economic hub, home to major corporations such as Pixar Animation Studios, Peet's Coffee, Clif Bar, and the Center for Investigative Reporting. Its location at the intersection of major freeways and its accessibility via the Bay Bridge and Amtrak make it a key transportation gateway in the Bay Area. Emeryville offers a dense urban feel with a diverse population and a mix of housing options, from single-family homes to modern condominiums and lofts. DEFINITION
Under general supervision, this position performs a variety of duties and facilitates activities that support the development of children; implements creative curriculum and activities in a team-oriented environment; and performs related duties as required.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
This Teacher Associate is a paraprofessional position in the Teacher series. Incumbents are responsible for the full range of instructional duties. The Teacher Associate is distinguished from the next higher-level class of the Teacher classification as the Associate position provides support, while the latter assumes full responsibility for administering, planning, and reviewing all curriculum. Provides care and supervision of children which may include sitting, squatting, kneeling, bending, lifting, and carrying children as needed. Presents subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers. Safely instructs, monitors, and participates with structured and free play activities. Assists in maintaining a clean, healthy, and safe environment. Develops and implements weekly activities designed for cognitive, social-emotional, and physical development. Notifies teachers of children potentially requiring special needs; assists in the implementation of Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs). Conducts developmental screenings, ongoing child observations, and developmental assessments on children enrolled in the program. Provides input for the classroom newsletters. Attends staff meetings and trainings. Encourages and maintains a good relationship with management, staff, parents and children. Follows the California State Department of Education regulations when performing all duties and responsibilities. Follows all Community Care Licensing Regulations and ensures classrooms are Title 5 and Title 22 compliant. Participates in parent meetings and conferences. Plans and participates in community events. E ducation Possesses a high school diploma or GED certificate. Must have the ability to meet the re-education provisions of the State Department of Education. An Associate's of Arts degree and higher is preferred. And Experience Six (6) months of relevant child development experience in a center-based setting. Licenses and Certifications An Associate Teacher Permit is required at the time of application. All necessary and required documentation must be current as required by the California State Department of Education, Community Care Licensing, and the City of Emeryville.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of current child development practices in accordance with the California State Department of Education and Community Care Licensing guidelines; rules regulations and statutes regarding child safety and personal rights; best practices in supporting child progress along the developmental continuum and applicable methods of child assessment; effective methods of child assessment and evaluation; correct English usage including spelling, grammar and punctuation; acceptable methods of child care; methods and practices of child assessment; various stages of child development; effective methods of building positive relationships with children, staff and parents; rules, regulations and statutes governing the operation of a Child Development Center. Ability to safely monitor, direct and participate in activities with the infants, toddlers, and children; stand, walk, squat, kneel, bend, twist, reach above shoulder level and below waist level, push and pull, lift up to 50 lbs.; implement current child development practices in accordance with State Department of Education and Community Care Licensing guidelines; prepare lesson plans and daily activity schedules which facilitate learning; communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally; work as part of a team in a culturally diverse environment; work with children in distress and/or are uncooperative; implement program goals; work effectively with others including parents, staff, management and consultants; understand and follow oral and written instructions; perform the physical duties of the job.
