A Teacher Assistant assists classroom teachers by providing extra individual attention and instruction to students. Helps teachers with recordkeeping, preparation for lessons and activities and supervising students. May work with special education students, or work in a school library or computer lab; may be called teacher aide or paraprofessional.

Position Overview We are currently seeking a compassionate and experienced Classroom Assistant Teacher (paraprofessional/SCIA) to join our team. The ideal candidate will have prior experience working in special education and a genuine passion for supporting young children's development. As an Assistant Teacher (paraprofessional/SCIA), you will work closely with our dedicated teaching staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students.
Responsibilities:
Assist the lead teacher in implementing specialized learning plans for students with additional support needs. Provide one-on-one support and small group instruction to students, as directed by the teacher. Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment where all children feel valued and respected. Assist with classroom management and student support strategies. Support students with activities of daily living, including toileting, feeding, and personal hygiene. Collaborate with the teaching team to modify curriculum materials and activities to meet the diverse needs of all students. Communicate regularly with parents and caregivers to provide updates on student progress and support continuity between home and school. Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities as required. Support the sanitation and organization of the classroom by supporting with cleaning, sanitizing, and organization.
Qualifications:
Prior experience working in special education or with children with additional support needs is required. Experience working with children under the age of 6 is required. High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, or related field preferred. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues. Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with young children. Ability to follow directions and work effectively as part of a team. Willingness to learn and implement new strategies and techniques to support student learning and development. Working use of ASL preferred Bilingual (Spanish) a plus! Excellent references
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to kneel, bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods. Ability to engage in physical activities with children, including playing, running, and climbing.
