On-Call Substitute Teachers Aide - OUTDOOR Toddler Program - $23-$24/hr

Job Description

The Santa Cruz Toddler Care Center is currently hiring Substitute Teacher Aides for our outdoor program for one and two year olds ! This is an on-call/as needed position with the potential to become a permanent position. Hours will vary, but typically are Monday
  • Thursday, 8:45 am
  • 4:30 pm; Friday 8:45 am
  • 1:30 pm. We are open Monday
  • Thursdays from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, and on Fridays until 1:00 pm, for paid planning, training and meeting time for our staff.

We believe that young children thrive outdoors , and have rebuilt our campus to provide a beautifully remodeled, re-landscaped, and extremely toddler-friendly space for one and two year olds and the adults who care for them. We value anti-bias curriculum , diversity, sustainability, and the dream of each child being able to achieve all they are capable of, with the knowledge that together human beings can make a difference. We have published a book about our unique philosophy of care, 1,2,3......The Toddler Years, that is widely used in ECE classrooms and parent education programs. We serve organic vegetarian meals cooked onsite , supplemented by the children's organic vegetable garden .
Job Responsibilities:
Together with other staff members, provide overview for a small group of one and two year olds using the RIE philosophy. Establish positive and productive relationships with families. Establish and maintain a safe and healthy outdoor learning environment. Serve and clean up after meals and help with laundry. Embrace, model and share a love and respect of the outdoor world. If qualified and after training, act as substitute for teachers when out. Desired Job Requirements Minimum of 9 ECE units, with more in progress. 12 ECE units preferred. Experience in licensed childcare program serving 1 and 2 year olds, Experience and knowledge of the RIE philosophy and emergent curriculum, Certified CPR and basic first aid, Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, Passionate about nature based early childhood education , Comfortable working with children with differing developmental needs, Able to convey wonder & cheerfulness in all weather, Warm and caring personality
  • friendly and approachable to children and families, Willingness to be flexible with job duties and participate fully as a member of a team.
