Goal:
The Extended Care Staff supports the mission of Sunnyvale Christian School by providing a safe, caring, structured, and Christ-centered environment for students after the regular school day. The goal of this position is to ensure that students are appropriately supervised, treated with care and respect, and provided with meaningful opportunities for recreation, homework, social interaction, and rest until they are picked up by an authorized adult.
Overview:
The Extended Care Staff is a part-time position responsible for supervising students enrolled in the Extended Care program. Responsibilities include maintaining student safety, supervising indoor and outdoor activities, assisting with homework and activities, supporting appropriate student behavior, maintaining accurate attendance and dismissal procedures, and helping maintain an orderly and welcoming Extended Care environment. The Extended Care Staff shall demonstrate patience, dependability, sound judgment, positive communication, and the ability to actively supervise and appropriately respond to the needs of children. The Extended Care Staff shall agree with the Statement of Faith and Core Values of Sunnyvale Christian School.

EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
The Extended Care Staff shall: Have a high school diploma or equivalent. Additional education or coursework in child development, education, recreation, or a related field is preferred. Have previous experience working with children in a school, childcare, church, camp, recreation, or similar setting preferred. Demonstrate the ability to provide active and attentive supervision of children in both indoor and outdoor settings. Possess strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills. Demonstrate the ability to follow school policies, safety procedures, emergency procedures, and student dismissal protocols. Demonstrate appropriate judgment and the ability to respond calmly and effectively to student needs, behavioral concerns, injuries, and unexpected situations. Complete all required background checks, fingerprinting, health screenings, training, certifications, and other employment requirements as required by Sunnyvale Christian School and applicable law. Maintain current CPR, First Aid, or other safety certifications when required for the position. Complete mandated reporter and other required school safety training. Be physically able to actively supervise students, move throughout the school campus, participate in indoor and outdoor activities, and respond promptly when student assistance is needed.

JOB DESCRIPTION
- Essential Functions The Extended Care Staff shall: Reflect and support the mission, values, and Christian character of Sunnyvale Christian School. Report to work consistently and punctually and be prepared to begin supervising students at the scheduled start time. Provide active, attentive, and appropriate supervision of students at all times. Maintain student safety during indoor activities, outdoor play, homework time, transitions, snack time, and dismissal. Follow established Extended Care procedures for student attendance, check-in, and dismissal. Ensure students are released only to parents, guardians, or other individuals authorized by the school to pick up the student. Maintain accurate attendance and dismissal records as assigned. Immediately report any discrepancy regarding student attendance, pickup authorization, or student whereabouts to the Extended Care Coordinator or administrator. Provide students with a welcoming, nurturing, respectful, and Christ-centered after-school environment. Lead and supervise age-appropriate activities, games, recreation, crafts, and other activities as assigned. Provide appropriate opportunities for both active play and quieter activities. Supervise and assist students with homework or independent academic activities as appropriate while encouraging students to complete their own work. Assist with the distribution and supervision of snacks when assigned. Monitor students for allergies, medical concerns, or other documented needs communicated by school administration. Follow school procedures regarding student medication and immediately refer medication-related matters to authorized school personnel. Establish and reinforce clear, age-appropriate expectations for student behavior. Use positive, respectful, and consistent behavior-management practices in accordance with school policies. Redirect inappropriate student behavior calmly and appropriately. Refrain from using corporal punishment, humiliating discipline, inappropriate language, threats, or any disciplinary practice inconsistent with school policy. Notify the Extended Care Coordinator or appropriate administrator of significant or repeated behavioral concerns. Treat every student with dignity, fairness, compassion, and respect. Model Christ-like behavior, kindness, honesty, patience, responsibility, and appropriate conflict resolution. Help students resolve minor disagreements appropriately and seek administrative assistance when concerns exceed the staff member's role. Maintain awareness of student locations and activities throughout the Extended Care period. Position oneself appropriately to maintain visual and auditory supervision of students. Avoid personal phone use or other activities that interfere with active student supervision. Follow school procedures for playground, classroom, restroom, hallway, and campus supervision. Ensure that students remain within designated Extended Care areas unless properly supervised during a transition. Follow all school emergency procedures, including procedures for fire, earthquake, lockdown, evacuation, medical emergencies, and other emergencies. Respond promptly to student injuries or illnesses and obtain appropriate assistance. Report accidents, injuries, safety concerns, or unusual incidents promptly to the Extended Care Coordinator or administrator. Complete accident, incident, behavior, or other documentation when required. Immediately report any suspected child abuse, neglect, or safety concern according to mandated reporter requirements and school procedures. Maintain confidentiality regarding student behavior, academic information, family circumstances, medical information, and other private information. Communicate appropriately and courteously with parents and guardians during student pickup. Refer significant parent questions, complaints, disciplinary matters, or concerns to the Extended Care Coordinator or appropriate administrator rather than attempting to resolve matters outside the scope of the position. Communicate relevant student concerns or information to the Extended Care Coordinator and appropriate school personnel. Work cooperatively with classroom teachers, office staff, administration, and other Extended Care staff. Assist with transitions from the regular school day into the Extended Care program. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe Extended Care environment. Guide students in cleaning up materials, games, supplies, and activity areas after use. Ensure Extended Care areas are left clean and orderly at the conclusion of the program each day. Properly store school equipment and materials and report damaged or unsafe equipment. Follow school procedures regarding the use of classrooms, playgrounds, equipment, technology, and other school property. Help prepare materials and activities for Extended Care as assigned. Attend Extended Care, staff, safety, or training meetings when requested. Participate in required professional development and training. Inform the Extended Care Coordinator or administration promptly when unable to complete an assigned responsibility or when additional guidance is needed.
