Essential Job Functions:

• Provides assistance to teachers in specialized and/or general education classrooms in preparing a variety of instructional material for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts with students.
• Provide instructional support to individual students and small groups with special learning needs by reinforcing learning activities assisting with the preparation of instructional materials and learning media and monitoring student progress to support remediation of identified learning needs.
• Direct students into safe learning activities and functions and assist in shaping appropriate social behaviors.
• Support student behavior management through the implementation of positive reinforcement strategies and behavior intervention techniques designed to encourage appropriate and productive student behaviors.
• Maintain, or assist in maintaining, a safe, orderly, and welcoming learning environment that promotes engagement and positivity.
• Collect and maintain accurate student data including academic and behavior information and ensure all student records and information are handled in accordance with FERPA and established confidentiality standards.
• Administer medication in accordance with specific medical instruction.
• Perform routine First aid.
• Request appropriate assistance for serious student injury or illness.
• May assist students with special physical needs.
• May assist in the development of communication skills with students who experience language and hearing disorders.
• Guides all students in personal interactions and/or specific student issues for the purpose of developing interpersonal skills and successful problem solving strategies resulting in building confidence and self esteem.
• Monitors students' behavior plans and performance in various school settings under the direction of assigned classroom teachers for the purpose of providing feedback to students, teachers, and/or others involved in the provision of services in accordance with IEPs.
• May ride a school bus with students.
• Work cooperatively with others.
• Escorts students to/from bus and/or transportation vehicles as needed for the purpose of ensuring the safety of individuals and proper boarding and unboarding practices in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Attend and participate in training, staff meetings and professional developmental activities to support effective performance of assigned duties.
• Perform other job related duties as assigned.
