In this vital role, you will support classroom teachers in delivering tailored instruction and behavioral support to students with diverse learning needs. You will assist with implementing individualized education plans (IEPs), managing classroom activities, and providing hands-on support to students with disabilities, including those on the autism spectrum or with developmental disabilities. Help manage classroom behavior by applying behavior management techniques tailored to students with behavioral disorders or autism spectrum disorders. Collaborate with other professionals—such as speech therapists, occupational therapists, and counselors—to develop and execute effective student support strategies. Support students during instructional activities by providing one-on-one or small group assistance, ensuring they understand and engage with lessons. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive student information and adhere to regulations like the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Assist in developing and adapting curriculum materials, lesson plans, and instructional resources suited for students with special needs. Experience Prior classroom experience supporting students with disabilities or special education needs is highly preferred. Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, or behavioral challenges is essential. Knowledge of classroom management techniques specific to special education settings is required. Familiarity with American Sign Language (ASL), Montessori methods, or preschool/early childhood education is advantageous. Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information professionally and ethically. Strong communication and writing skills to effectively collaborate with team members and document student progress. Background in working within private school environments or early childhood programs such as toddler care or preschool settings is a plus.
