Supporting individuals who have significant difficulties in the areas of verbal/nonverbal communication, social interaction skills, adjusting to environmental changes/changes in routines, transitions between activities, behavioral challenges and challenges with the general curriculum (including social and emotional development). These individuals may be working on skills such as initiating/responding to others, understanding emotions and facial expressions, making eye contact, and sharing interest in activities. These individuals often have unusual responses to sensory experiences, highly restricted areas of interest and engage in repetitive activities/stereotyped movements. This program focuses on strengthening functional communication, social interaction, flexibility to changes, and using sensory strategies to self-regulate. Individuals may still participate in the general education setting for parts of the day when appropriate, as determined by the ISP team. Individuals are supported by program staff with ongoing professional development in positive behavior principles, methods of structured teaching, functional communication, sensory needs/supports, and crisis prevention/intervention. Individuals have access to a highly structured environment with increased visual support, consistent schedules and routines, and support to transition through daily activities. Services are provided using a team approach.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Be empathetic to, and understanding of, the needs of individuals affected by cognitive impairments. Collaborate with our multi-faceted administration team on coordinating, planning and implementing fun daily living skills lesson plans and activities, both within our day program and out in the community. Engage positively with our vibrant individuals on administration appointed and approved meaningful activities that foster social interaction and personal growth, while ensuring our individuals' comfort and safety. Support our dynamic individuals in exercising their rights, freedom of choice, and independence. In constructive collaboration with our multi-disciplinary team, compassionately implement plans of care, and complete Progress Notes, Outing Notes, Behavior Documents, etc. Monitor individuals' health and report any changes or concerns to the appropriate personnel. Kindly assist individuals with personal care and activities of daily living (ADL's) which may include (but is not limited to) assistance with toileting, feeding, and grooming. May be required to perform heavy lifting to assist individuals with mobility or transfers (training is provided). Be ready and willing to assist our team if CPR or first aid needs occur in our center or on outings (training is provided). Be ready and willing to assist if crisis intervention needs occur (we all work as a team and training is provided). Maintain a clean and organized environment.
Additional Responsibilities:
Attend all team meetings for individuals. Take notes and ask any questions to obtain clarification for any behavior issues that have arisen. Read and respond to any behavior plan that is currently in place for individuals and get specific training from the behavior specialist. Report to Administration and the Behavior Specialist in charge for any concerns, issues, or clarification needed to support individuals in their current behavior plans.
Job Requirements:
Behavior Documentation In the absence of an Intervention Team Member, staff must complete the appropriate behavior documentation the day of the event and turn it in to the Supervisor. Implementation of Goals a) Depending upon the number of times goals are to be ran, each Individual's goals are to be completed during the first three days of the week; if the goals are 5 days a week, then every day indicated. b) Goals & percentage of completion are to be written in the appropriate column on a daily basis. Documentation Progress Notes a) All progress notes are to be completed and turned in daily to Case Management b) Progress Note feedback received from Case Management must be reviewed and corrected the same day it is received. Outing Forms are to be completed and turned in no later than the following day at close of business. Professionalism Always maintain appropriate behavior (be respectful, courteous, caring, kind, and responsible) as an agent of the agency when in contact with individuals, families, the public and direct support staff and all co-workers. Program Rules Have discussions with the Administration on any questions or concerns you have about a particular program or behavior. Do not make any changes to the approved Behavior Support Program on your own. Discussions about personal relationships, activities, hobbies, etc. will not be tolerated during working shifts. Violators will receive disciplinary actions up to and including termination.

Trainings Provided:
- Fire safety, emergency, and disaster plans and procedures
- Proper body mechanics for lifting/transferring/positioning as a basic requirement to assist in performing activities of daily living safely
- In addition, prior to working with each individual, training on the individual's specific condition(s) as written in their care plan protocol
- Specific individual medications and their side effects
- Annual requirements including but not limited to: 1.
) Abuse and Neglect training, 2.) Blood Borne Pathogens, 3.) Confidentiality agreement, 4.) Tardive Dyskinesia, 5.) Seizure training and 6.) others on an as needed basis
Qualifications:

Educational Level:
Hold an associate degree or higher in any subject from a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution; OR Have completed 2 years (60 semester hours) of college coursework above the remedial level at a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution with a grade of "C" or better. OR Hold a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent and have passed the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment 2.
Certification/License Required:
Must maintain Georgia Paraprofessional Certificate which includes in-service training related to position
