The PFA Paraprofessional at YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago plays a crucial role in supporting the educational and developmental needs of children within our programs. This position is responsible for assisting certified teachers in implementing lesson plans, fostering a positive learning environment, and ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants. The PFA Paraprofessional contributes to the overall mission of the YMCA by promoting youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist teachers in the preparation and delivery of instructional materials and activities that support the curriculum and engage students. Monitor and supervise children during classroom activities, ensuring their safety and encouraging positive behavior. Provide individualized attention and support to students who require additional assistance, adapting teaching methods to meet diverse learning needs. Collaborate with teachers and staff to create a welcoming and inclusive environment that promotes respect and understanding among students. Maintain accurate records of student progress and behavior, reporting any concerns to the lead teacher or program coordinator. Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge relevant to the role. Communicate effectively with parents and guardians, providing updates on student progress and addressing any concerns. Uphold YMCA policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
Required Education:
High school diploma or equivalent is required. An associate degree in early childhood education or a related field is preferred.
Required Experience:
Minimum of 1 year of experience working with children in an educational or childcare setting. Experience in implementing educational programs or activities for young children. Familiarity with the principles of early childhood development and education.
