Job Description

Reports to: Building Principal in collaboration with the Director of Communications and Language Programs

General Summary:

Assist limited English proficient students in the process of learning academic English in an educational environment.

Essential Functions:

Assisting EL students with English language development.

Assisting the EL teacher to coordinate EL services.

Assisting with appropriate record keeping, data and standardized assessments.

Assisting students in adapting to a new culture.

Assisting EL students with schoolwork.

Coordinating student services with other teachers as directed by the EL teacher.

Attending EL staff meetings for direction and professional development.

Performing other reasonable related duties as may be assigned.

Knowledge and Ability:

Ability to manage and prioritize multiple activities to meet deadlines under time

Ability to communicate orally and in writing sufficient to express ideas

thoughts and instruction clearly to staff, patrons and students

Ability to collaborate effectively on inter- and intra-agency levels

Knowledge and experience with computer software and systems

Exhibits patience, courtesy, respect, ethical conduct and tact when dealing with all

Ability to drive a car

Qualifications:

Two years college or university, or the ability to pass the paraprofessional

Ability to work with students in a one to one, small group or classroom setting, under supervision of a certified teacher.

Desired:

Bilingual and/or cross-cultural experienced preferred
