Job Responsibilities:

Assists, supports, and works closely with teachers, administrators, and other team members in providing educational support for Special Education classrooms. Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced and outlined by licensed staff. Assists the teacher in special strategies for reinforcing learning materials and skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities. Monitors work, supervises curriculum-based testing and makeup work, as assigned by the staff.

Assists in classroom and instructional duties as assigned by the teacher.

Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in the school environment and community.

Maintains a safe working environment and encourages colleagues to be safety minded in the performance of all school-related duties.

Qualifications Required:

Experience working with students

Minimum of 48 college credits or ParaPro Test

Citizenship, residency or work visa required

Qualifications Preferred:

Experience in a classroom setting working with students with disabilities

Bilingual Spanish

Associate's degree, at minimum

Terms:

Paraprofessionals are members of the Chelsea Teachers Union (CTU). The length of the school day is 6.5 hours, but subject to longer hours for schools with extended day. The number of school days are 184 days. See CPS website for salary information.
