The special education paraprofessional serves as a supportive assistant to classroom and special education teachers. Under the supervision of a licensed special education teacher, the paraprofessional may assist with classroom management, collecting data, small group and individual instruction, coaching, monitoring, direction/redirection and, at times, physical support for students with special needs. Job QualificationsParaprofessionals are expected to have attained a high school diploma or its equivalent, two years of post-secondary education or an associates degree, or successful completion of the Parapro or WorkKeys assessmentParaprofessionals should have prior experience working with children in a school settingPreferred skills include second language abilities, experience working with special needs students and ABA strategies. RBT certification would be an asset to this program.
