Position Summary:

The substitute instructional paraprofessional will provide academic and social support to students in grades 6-8 during Physical Education classes.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma Experience working with middle school aged students, preferred Ability to lead small group instruction with support from classroom teachers Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with staff and students Good health and stamina for assigned duties Ability to be flexible and adapt to working with students of different ages,skill levels and temperaments Ability to withstand the strain of the position Must be reliable and punctual with excellent work-related attendance record Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administration may find appropriate

Responsibilities:

Support teacher with the academic and social emotional needs of students Provide small group/whole group support and/or supervision at stations during core academic learning time Offer brain breaks/movement breaks or relaxation room breaks to students who need positive reinforcement or are overstimulated in the gymnasium Assist students if/when they have extreme behavioral outbursts so that teaching can continue to be the focus in the gym Provide consistent support at lunch and during breaks in order to help students navigate this unstructured time of day Work collaboratively with teachers and other staff Maintain regular and punctual attendance Other responsibilities as determined by the administrator Employment is contingent upon disclosure in accordance with PA-189. Ability to withstand the strains and successfully manage the responsibilities of the position. Must demonstrate reliability and punctuality, with a strong record of consistent attendance. Regular and dependable presence during school hours is essential. All staff members are expected to maintain a professional and respectful attitude toward one another at all times. Selected candidates will be required to have a district paid fingerprint criminal history check processed through the Michigan State Police and FBI.
