Compensation & Benefits:
Hourly rate based on WHESPA Collective Bargaining Agreement; comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance; retirement plan options; paid time off (PTO) and sick leave. Position Summary Provides instructional, behavioral, and personal care support to students under the direct supervision of certified teaching staff. Works collaboratively to implement learning activities, assist with classroom management, and support individual student needs per Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or general classroom requirements. Qualifications & MDE Requirements Per the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) and Title I federal standards, candidates must hold a high school diploma/GED AND meet one of the following requirements:
Associate Degree or Higher:
Associate of Arts/Science degree from an accredited institution.
College Coursework:
Minimum of 60 semester hours (or equivalent) of completed higher education credit.
State Formal Assessment:
Passing score (460 or higher) on the ETS ParaPro Assessment, or valid completion of historical state-approved assessments (e.g., WorkKeys). Key Responsibilities Assist individual or small groups of students with reading, writing, mathematics, and classroom tasks under teacher guidance. Reinforce positive behavioral supports, IEP accommodations, and classroom rules. Help prepare instructional materials and maintain a clean, organized learning environment. Provide physical or self-care assistance to students as required by program placement. Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and progress. Proof of MDE Qualification:
Attach or submit one of the following: Official college transcripts verifying an Associate Degree or a minimum of 60 completed semester credit hours. Official score report showing a passing score of 460 or higher on the ETS ParaPro Assessment.
Letters of Recommendation:
Minimum of two professional or professional-adjacent references.
Selection & Hiring Process Criminal Background Check:
Final candidates must successfully pass a mandatory Michigan State Police and FBI fingerprint-based criminal history check per district policy and state law.
