Hour Job Summary:
Under the direction of the teacher, the ESL Paraprofessional provides instructional assistance to students in the district who are non-speakers of English. students in the district who are non-speakers of
English Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists teacher in teaching language arts to non-native English-speaking students using appropriate learning activities. Instructs pupils in basic communication skills to facilitate transition into the regular instructional program. Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adopt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil to the extent possible. Work with individuals or small groups of students on follow-up activities. Performs other duties as assigned. Regular and consistent attendance. Must have knowledge of and comply with the policies and procedures contained in the Portage Public Schools Employee Handbook. The above duties and responsibilities are intended to be representative of the nature of the work by this position. The listing is not all-inclusive.
Qualifications:
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent. The equivalent of 2 years of college (60 semester credits) or an Associate's degree or higher OR the successful completion of the MDE approved Paraprofessional standards test (ETS). Experience working with children. Demonstrated abilities in the area of interpersonal communication. A high degree of patience, ability and willingness to learn new skills and take direction.
