A Teacher Assistant assists classroom teachers by providing extra individual attention and instruction to students. Helps teachers with recordkeeping, preparation for lessons and activities and supervising students. May work with special education students, or work in a school library or computer lab; may be called teacher aide or paraprofessional.

Job Description
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Demonstrated understanding of student needs, ability and desire to work with special needs students. Assist student(s) with personal needs, including but not limited to hygiene, diapering, toileting, and clothing. Ability to assist student(s) with multiple challenges in the classroom/school environment. Ability to follow through with prescribed behavioral management or instructional programs. Ability to maintain composure and communication during stressful situations. May need good physical flexibility such as ability to run, walk, lift and/or respond to student physical needs. Willingness to be trained in area(s) of student health related awareness and intervention. Willingness to accept assignment at multiple and potentially differing sites and locations depending on individual student needs as determined by the District. Willingness to be assigned as general help during "down-periods". Maintain various records and file, parent contact may be required.Characteristics sought include:
Child-centered, adaptability, calm demeanor, respect for dignity, patience, confidentiality, and ability to alertly focus during times of potential distraction. Wheelchair assistance may be required. Good attendance required.Description:
