Job Description

Category Schools - Paraprofessional Job Type Contract Make a meaningful impact as an ASL Paraprofessional supporting middle school students in a dynamic educational setting. This full-time contract opportunity, running through June 4, 2027, places you at the heart of a welcoming and inclusive learning environment close to Westland, MI. The role is designed for candidates who are fluent in American Sign Language and passionate about making education accessible for all. Your expertise in working with students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing will help foster academic growth, confidence, and greater classroom engagement. You'll serve as an essential part of the school's commitment to diversity and equal opportunity, working collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and the special education team.
Desired Qualifications:
High school diploma required; must provide high school or college transcript upon hiring Fluent proficiency in American Sign Language is mandatory Prior experience working in a school setting, ideally as a paraprofessional Strong interpersonal and communication skills Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Key Responsibilities:
Provide direct in-class support to middle school students utilizing ASL for communication and instruction Assist teachers in preparing materials, adapting lessons, and reinforcing concepts for students with diverse learning needs Promote an inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation Monitor student progress and collaborate on educational plans Support students with social interaction, behavior plans, and integrating life skills as appropriate You'll enjoy consistent, meaningful work throughout the academic year, the opportunity to develop specialized skills alongside dedicated educators, and a chance to play a vital advocacy role for students.
