Job Description

Sandhills Classical Christian School, located in Whispering Pines, NC, is seeking an Assistant Teacher for our Grammar School (Grades K-6). SCCS provides a classical education that couples spiritual vitality with engaged students, exceptional staff, and robust programs in a well-designed learning environment supported by strong fiscal management and committed donor development. SCCS is fully accredited with the Association of Classical Christian Schools (ACCS) for grades K-12.
Job Summary:
The Assistant Teacher is to support and lead in the calling to provide students an excellent classical education founded upon a biblical worldview. As such, any candidate should be able to ensure that:
  • Students will be welcomed into an open and instructive classroom,
  • Students will be taught using an excellent classical methodology, and
  • Will encourage and model a true Christ-like attitude in all things.
Qualifications:
Associate degree in Education preferred Prior experience working with children required Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and families Displaying Fruits of the Spirit - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices in early childhood education Ability to successfully engage students and foster physical, emotional, cognitive and social development Ability to develop rapport with students, parents and colleagues Ability to exercise tact, discretion and confidentiality Strong leadership qualities Firm management style with students (independent & group setting) Reliable Respectful to authority Effective interpersonal skills Effective in organization, planning and scheduling
Essential Job Functions:
Set and keep a schedule that compliments the needs of all Lead Teachers Assist Lead Teacher in a classroom from August to May Help Lead Teacher maintain a safe and healthy environment Help Lead Teacher respond appropriately to crisis emergency situations that may occur Help Lead Teacher maintain upkeep of educational resources/curriculum materials in each classroom Follow behavior management & classroom discipline program of Lead Teacher you assist Help students comprehend classroom rules & follow classroom procedures of Lead Teacher you assist Help Lead Teacher to prepare learning materials required for daily activities and lessons, as requested (create, color, cut, paste, laminate, copy, etc.) Prepare and stuff student folders for dismissal Attend monthly Staff Meetings Participate in SCCS Staff Development Attend programs & special events In any of the classroom(s) you assist, be prepared to be the Substitute Teacher, as needed Clean up classroom(s) you assist (sweep, take out trash, wipe tables, etc.) Throughout the year, take pictures of student(s)/class(es) for weekly newsletter & Finale' slideshow How to
