10-Month Position; 7.5 Hours Per Day; Full-Time; Eligible for Benefits
Salary:
Hourly rate based on the Burke County Public Schools Classified Salary Schedule and experience. Position Purpose The Kindergarten Teacher Assistant provides instructional, behavioral, and personal support to students while assisting the classroom teacher in creating a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment. The Teacher Assistant works collaboratively with the classroom teacher to help students develop foundational academic, social, emotional, and behavioral skills necessary for future success. Minimum Qualifications Minimum of 48 semester hours of creditable college coursework from an accredited institution (or meet current state requirements for Teacher Assistants). Ability to work effectively with young children. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to work cooperatively with students, staff, parents, and administrators. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instructional Support Assist the teacher in implementing daily instructional activities. Work with individual students and small groups to reinforce instruction. Assist students in developing early literacy, mathematics, writing, science, and social studies skills. Support students during learning centers and classroom activities. Prepare instructional materials and classroom resources. Assist in administering classroom assessments as directed. Reinforce positive learning behaviors and classroom expectations. Classroom Management Help establish and maintain a safe, orderly, and positive classroom environment. Supervise students during classroom transitions. Assist with arrival, dismissal, recess, lunch, and other school activities. Monitor student behavior and encourage appropriate social interactions. Support classroom routines that promote independence and responsibility. Student Support Assist students with organization and classroom routines. Encourage positive social and emotional development. Observe student progress and communicate concerns to the classroom teacher. Assist students requiring additional instructional or behavioral support. Clerical Responsibilities Prepare copies and instructional materials. Organize classroom supplies and learning centers. Maintain bulletin boards and classroom displays. Assist with record keeping and filing. Operate classroom technology and instructional equipment. Communication Work collaboratively with classroom teachers and school staff. Maintain professional relationships with parents and guardians. Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and required training. Maintain confidentiality regarding student and personnel information. Safety Follow all BCPS policies and procedures. Assist with emergency drills and school safety procedures. Maintain a clean and safe classroom environment. Report safety concerns immediately. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of child development and early childhood instructional practices. Ability to work effectively with kindergarten-age children. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to establish positive relationships with students and families. Ability to manage multiple tasks. Working knowledge of classroom technology. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism. Physical Requirements Frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and sit. Lift and carry up to 30 pounds. Assist students during classroom and playground activities. Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents. Working Conditions Elementary classroom setting with indoor and outdoor supervision, moderate noise levels, and frequent interaction with students, staff, and parents. Terms of Employment 10-Month Position; 7.5 Hours Per Day; Full-Time; Benefits Eligible; Hourly pay according to the BCPS Classified Salary Schedule; Evaluation in accordance with Board policy and NCDPI guidelines.
